Blow out pool lines: proof checklist

A professional line blowout should be recorded branch by branch, not as one checked box. Map suction, returns, cleaner, spa, and water-feature lines; note the model-appropriate method and photograph each outlet and installed plug. If a valve route or branch is uncertain, mark it unresolved and escalate rather than claiming the whole pool is protected.

What to record for every line

  1. Map and label each suction, return, cleaner, spa, and feature branch.
  2. Record the qualified technician's model-appropriate winterization method.
  3. Photograph each outlet after winterization and the installed plug.
  4. Record valve positions, unverified branches, and spring reopening notes.

Pentair's closing overview describes professionals blowing water from lines and protecting skimmers. It does not supply one compressor setting or one valve sequence for every pool. Pipe material, fittings, equipment elevation, water features, and plumbing design all matter. Use a qualified closer and the relevant equipment instructions.

No universal pressure recipe

Excess pressure can damage plumbing or equipment. This page intentionally does not prescribe air pressure, compressor size, timing, or a plug sequence. If the system layout is unclear or a branch cannot be verified, stop and document that gap.

Proof to capture

  • A simple line map or labeled photo of the pad and valves.
  • One after photo per outlet, skimmer, return, and feature line.
  • Plug type and placement, with inaccessible locations called out.
  • Any line needing a return visit, repair, or spring verification.

Questions

Does bubbling at one return prove all pool lines are clear?

No. Each identified branch needs its own verification and record. A shared valve or hidden water feature can leave another line unaddressed.

What if the plumbing layout is unknown?

Stop and get a qualified pool professional to map it. Record the unverified branch as open work; do not claim the pool was fully winterized.
