- Air leak at pump lid O-ring (very common on Waterway — O-ring degrades with age and UV)
- Air leak at suction unions or fittings
- Suction valve not fully open

- Inspect pump lid O-ring — apply a heavy bead of silicone lubricant (Teflon-compatible only)
- Check all suction fittings for any gap or partial looseness
- Open all suction valves fully
- Check water level — must cover skimmer intake
